INSPIRATIONS: Energy (Blue) Superman.
Oh, the 90’s! Gave us the Clone Saga, Azrael Batman, and Energy Superman. A story in 1998 gave Superman electric superpowers and in this state he had to wear a special containment suit in order to stay corporeal. Hmmm…sound familiar? Yep, part of the Molecule character was derived from this character here. Something about Energy Superman always spoke to me: look at that design. That’s powerful. Simple, elegant, not CLASSIC Superman, but as A SUPERMAN figure, a science fiction superhero, it’s iconic.
However, it was the blue/white combo and the energy powers that most inspired me about this character. The blue/white would be colors that would find their way into the seed of my graphic novel, despite Molecule being primarily red/black. Crackling energy, incorporeal state of flux, and that blue skin stuck with me until finally I found a way to tie them into something of my own.

OTAKUism: the suit was so nice that DC used it later for a female Super-related character called the Strange Visitor. [Get it? You may recall that they used to refer to Superman as “a strange visitor from another planet” (Krypton).]
